I need to save money somewhere in redoing our landscaping in the front yard. We are digging up the yard and I'd love to have an irrigation system. Is this something we could do ourselves? On a scale of 1-10, we are about a 3 when it comes to do-it-yourself projects.
Not a DIY person I would not tackle an irrigation job on my own, although there are some DIY projects I would do. There are so many things to consider like timers, freezing pipelines, placement so everything gets watered appropriately. I don't trust myself to do this job at all. Good luck with your project.
I'd suggest using a professional as MrsGreenJeans already said. I'm sure you can look it up and do it step by step, but if you are new to it, it may be more of a hassel than you would be willing to deal with.
I'm looking at a DIY system called LawnBelt right now, which would be within my physical and technical capability and more affordable than paying someone to do a professionally installed system. You still need to do the planning so the pressures are adequate and the nozzles and/or drip lines are placed properly. And it isn't as automated as a pro system by a long shot. But I can dig a couple inches down with a spade and step on a hose and clamp and screw things into place. And they seem pretty eager to please in the customer service department, in terms of answering questions.
