Do you buy whatever flowers that you think are pretty or do you actually do research first? I always look to see what type of flowers grow best in the soil we have. When I first started buying flowers I picked what I liked. I spent a ton of money and they always died. I learned after 3 years. I know research each flower. Are you like me?

I look them up too. I like low maintenance landscaping, so I tend to use native plants. Since many plants at the nursery are not native, I have to be careful with my selections.

I also try to buy native plants, because I hear that it is better to do so. Does anyone know if this is true? I do a little research, but my wife pretty much knows everything. :)

    Right plants for right soil

I used to buy plants all the time and try to make them grow at my home. Over time I learned that you really have to do your homework, especially if you don't have a green thumb to start with. It's good that local nurseries stock plants that will usually work with the area's soil and weather conditions.

I agree that the local nurseries usually sell the flowers that grow well in the area. I live in the country and we have a very wet yard. We also don't have many flower beds that are full sun. So you have to be really careful when you buy flowers.

I usually do my research first. Then choose the flowers that are color coordinated that way it does not look all around the place.
