We have a curving brick pathway that leads up to our front steps from a side drive. I would like some lighting along this path that is not too unobtrusive. What are some effective and inexpensive ways to achieve a lighted path that doesn't shine too brightly.

I have solar lights to brighten my walkway. The solar powered lights seem to be just right and not so bright. There are also so many styles of solar lights to pick from, so you are able to match the lights with your landscaping style.

I have solar powered lights for my walkway, that are shaped like little mushrooms. I find that the light coming from them perfect. They are not too bright, and not too dim. Just make sure you put them in an area where they will collect sun during the day. If the area you want to put them in is too shady, they either won't light up or will be too dim. We had to rearrange ours a few times, to get the lighting perfect.

The only other lighting I can think of, are those replica light poles. Our neighbor has one, and it looks great with his yard. It lights his walkway and front door area nicely.

You could also try rope lights. Those can provide some nice lighting, especially if you can tuck the rope itself under something so there is just the glow shining up.

I would try some of the low-to-the-ground spotlights that are designed to highlight focal points. Strategically placed, they would light the walkway without being harsh. You could also set it up so that one focused on perhaps a planter or statuary next to the pathway or near the front steps.

I prefer the solar lights, too, as long as you have an area where they will collect sunlight during the day. It's great not to have to deal with electric wires. They are fairly easy to trim around when you're tending the grass, but it's even better if you have a mulched area.
