I was just given a few packets of flower seeds, including Shasta Daisies, Forget Me Nots, and some wildflowers. I do not actually have a garden because of my pets. Any suggestions on how I might take advantage of these, or should I pass them on to someone else?
You can plant each packet of seeds in a big flower pot (separate pots though). Use good potting soil and be sure to keep them watered. They should grow with no problems. Be sure to also read if the flowers should be in full sun or shade.
Seed packets If you don't want to plant them yourself, you could always donate them to a local teacher. Students are always eager to grow something on the window sill of the classroom or just outside the window. They take them home to parents or beautify their environment with them.
Both of those are wonderful ideas. I somewhat like the donation idea. I love helping schools, and I think they would enjoy a better degree of success with them than I would. Thanks.
Do your pets get into the garden and that's why you don't want one? Or are you afraid you won't have time to tend a garden because you have pets to care for? I'm just curious why having pets prevents you from gardening - if you wanted to, of course.
Many plants will grow in containers, even vegetables! If you want to plant the flowers just buy some pots and plant away. I am just curious, what kind of pets do you have?
Bookmarkers I know a teacher who used to collect old seed packets with pretty colorful flowers on the outside of the envelopes. She would have her students choose a packet and use it for a week's worth of journal prompts in English. At the end of the project, she asked that they use the packets as bookmarkers for their book to remind them of all they could and would grow into.
I have two dogs, about 50lbs each. One is a black lab and the other is a mix of German shepherd, lab, and blue heeler. They run all over the place. They would trample a garden in the back yard in about 2 seconds.
